Song in my head

Have you ever had a song stuck in your head?  Experts call this an “earworm”, from the German translation ohrwurm, a term meaning a portion of a song or music that repeats compulsively in one’s mind.  Some experts believe that certain songs have properties that are similar to histamines that make our brain itch. The only way to scratch the itch is to repeat the song in our minds.

I have another theory. This theory has no scientific research; it is just my own thoughts on earworms. When I get a song stuck in my head, and it is one I have not just heard on the radio or TV, I believe it is a message from God .  I need to listen and think hard about the meaning of the words.

I do have something to back this up, though many of you may think I’m a little bit crazy. But hear me out.  My Mom had a song stuck in her head for many days (Red River Valley). It was so bad that it kept her awake at night. The song was one that her brother sang all the time. Her brother has been dead for many years and she had not heard that song in many years. So the only explanation was that this was a message of some kind. She did some research on the song and was fascinated by the origin and other bits of information. Suddenly, she decided to finally write the book she had wanted to write for so many years. Her brother wanted her to write this book…so could this have been a message from him or maybe God telling her to do it? She is now writing this book, so you decide ( the song is now out of her head).

I have a few of my own personal experiences but it would take too long to write them so I will just talk about today. I have this song stuck in my head. It is called “What a Feeling” by Irene Cara and it is from the movie “Flashdance”, a 1983 movie about a woman who works as a welder and exotic dancer but dreams of dancing with a real dance company. If you haven’t seen this movie, go out and rent it. It is a “feel good” movie about dreams coming true. These are the words that I keep singing over and over:

What a feeling, bein’s believin’
I can’t have it all, now I’m dancin’ for my life
Take your passion, and make it happen
Pictures come alive, you can dance right through your life

I honestly have not heard this song in many, many years, so where did it come from and why? I have a dream but sometimes I get discouraged and I have those doubts creep into my mind. “You’ll never be able to do that” or “That’s way out of my comfort zone” or sometimes I compare myself to others that are successful and think I can never be like that. I believe this song is God telling me to stop the negative talk and just believe I can reach my goal. What do you think?

Remember the next time you get a song stuck in your head, don’t try to get rid of it;  stop and really listen. It might be a message that you need to hear. Leave a comment and let me know what you think.  I would love to hear from you.

Online Email Marketing
If you have ever signed up for more information or a newsletter and received a string of letters then you have witnessed how an autoresponder works. Using an autoresponder for email online marketing just makes sense.

An autoresponder is software that allows you to send emails to people automatically. It is not used for spamming but to send to your list of prospects. You probably know how important a list is. All the gurus say “the money is in the list” and they are correct. The more people you have on your list, the more sales you can make.

Some uses for an autoresponder are:

* Generate email lists
* Manage your email
* Send motivational messages
* Run educational programs
* Ezine/newsletter delivery
* Ad tracking

There are many autoresponders to choose from such as Aweber, Getresponse, 1shoppingcart but the one I use is Freerotator.com. I like Freerotator because it does not have an affiliate program so it cost less. It is also easy to use.

You can set up an autoresponder to send pre-written emails to your list of prospects. The letters should be informative and not screaming “buy my product”. If you give people information they can use, they will learn to trust you; it helps build your credibility. Most people need at least 7- 12 letters before they are confident enough to purchase.

Set up a campaign in your autoresponder, give it a name and add your letters. As people join your list, just put their name and email address in the autoresponder and set it up for each letter to go out every 2 days. Your prospects will receive a letter from you for over 2 weeks. These letters will automatically keep you in front of potential customers. They are a constant reminder of the benefits of your product.

The benefits of using an autoresponder for email online marketing far outweigh the time it takes to set up the campaign. You will have to create the letters and set them up in the autoresponder but after that, it is all automatic.

th_blog-blogging
If you are thinking about creating a blog, how to advice is always good to have. Here are my 7 steps to a search engine optimized blog:

1. Find a subject that you are knowledgeable about. Make a list of subjects and pick the one you know the most about. If you have a business, then you may want to write about it. If you are new to your business then writing about a hobby or interest is best.

2. Find a blog software program.  I like wordpress but there are others such as blogger.com, livejournal and thoughts.com. I recommend using your own website to host the blog rather than the free hosting. This will cost money but well worth it if you want the search engines to find your blog. If you are just blogging for fun, then the free hosting will be fine.

3.  Once you create your blog setup, the next step is to add a post. I start with a keyword search tool such as Google Adwords. Then I think of a string of words (3 or more) and do a search. What you are looking for is many people searching for the words but not many people using those keywords. When you find a string of keywords that 4,000 – 10,000 people are searching for but only 50% or less are using these keywords, then write your post around those words. Use those words in your title and in the first paragraph (bolded). This is the hard part. Making your blog post make sense using those keywords. This is where your creativity comes in to play. You may not think you are creative, but you will be surprised when you put your mind to it.

4. Once you have created the blog post, send out an email to your list and let them know about your blog. I use Twitter but there are many social networking sites that you can use such as Facebook, My Space, Orkut, Linkedin, Tagged and so many more.

5. If you want the search engines to find your blog, post to your blog everyday. If that is not possible, then post at least 2 – 3 times per week. Search engines love fresh content, so the more you post, the higher you will rank in the search engines.

6. Now that you have completed steps 1 – 5, it is time to take your blog post and create an article. You may have to change it up a bit in order to follow the articles posting rules. I like Ezine Articles, Article Dashboard and Free Articles Directory. Once you have 3 articles posted, you will be considered an expert author and that will also help you with the search engines.
I also recommend Squidoo and Hubpages. These are single web pages with your articles on them.

7.  The last thing I recommend is to visit other blogs and post a comment. Make sure you read the post and leave a sincere comment. Also, use the blog’s keywords in your comment. This will provide links to other sites, another thing the search engines look for.

Blogging can be fun and also hard work. The more often you post, the quality of content and keywords you have in your post and the links to your post will determine how quickly the search engines  find you. It does take time to get the “natural traffic” from blogging but it will be worth it in the end.

If you have any more tips, please leave a comment. I would love to hear from you.

Personal Branding with an Articles Blog

Donna Filipiak

Donna Filipiak

Blogging is fast becoming the way to personally brand yourself and an articles blog is one way to accomplish this.

What exactly is personal branding, you ask? Personal branding is the way you market yourself to the world. How you want to be perceived by others. Do you want to be considered an expert in your field; helpful and informative; or funny and entertaining?

Why do you want to brand yourself? If you don’t, people will brand you anyways. By the way you act, speak or write. They will make a decision about you without knowing anything about you. This is not always a good thing.

If you have an internet business, then personal branding is important. You want your customers to know that you are knowledgeable, honest, helpful, etc. So a way to brand yourself would be to write an articles blog about your business. Give people your knowledge. Tell them things they don’t know or how to do things they don’t know how to do.

The more you write, the more you will develop your personal brand. Don’t try to sell anything, just give them information. The selling will come automatically. Make sure to put your photo on the articles blog. People like to see who you are. They want to put a face with the name. This also adds to your branding.

After you write an article and post it to your blog, go to other free article sites and put your article there. The more places you have your article, the more people will come to your blog and then to your business. You will become an expert in your field. And that is a good thing!

Happy blogging!

GDI

If you have been on the internet for even a short time, then you probably have heard about Global Domains International (GDI). There are many myths and lies going around about GDI and I would like to help dispel some of these.

Myth #1: GDI is a pyramid scheme.
Pyramid schemes are illegal in many countries, including the United States. GDI is a member of the Direct Selling Association (DSA). If you don’t know what this association is, go here and read all about it: http://www.dsa.org.
I will refer to a statement in the Code of Ethics that reads as follows:

The cornerstone of the Direct Selling Association’s (DSA) commitment to ethical business practices and consumer service is its Code of Ethics. Every member company pledges to abide by the code’s standards and procedures as a condition of admission and continuing membership in DSA.
The DSA Code of Ethics speaks to both the consumer and the seller. It ensures that member companies will make no statements or promises that might mislead either consumers or prospective sales people. Pyramid schemes are illegal and companies operating pyramids are not permitted to be members of the DSA.

GDI cannot be a pyramid scheme and be a member of the DSA.

Myth #2: The GDI market is saturated.
There will be over 500 million domain names registered in the next ten years. How many of those 500 million will you need at $1 each to live the lifestyle you want? There is plenty of room in GDI; it is not saturated.

Myth #3: You have to have a .ws domain extension.
When GDI first started it only offered .ws extensions but now GDI offers fourteen different domain extensions such as .com, .org, .net, .biz. You may find your name more available with .ws but now you have a choice.

Myth #4: You can’t make money with GDI.
This is my favorite so I saved it for last. I have been with GDI for almost 3 years. I would not have stayed this long if I was not making money. One of my upline members recently retired from his job at the age of 50 to work at home with GDI. He could not have done that if he wasn’t making money. He started with GDI 3 1/2 years ago and built his business this quick. That is amazing and so is the power of GDI.

Hopefully, I have been able to dispel a few myths and lies about GDI. GDI is a legitimate, stable company and it only costs $10 per month to join. For that $10 you will receive a domain name, hosting, ten email accounts, an easy to use website builder and an easy way to make money.

If you want to learn more about GDI, go here: http://freedom.ws/drflip.

Feed your mind

Feed your mind

The most important thing that I have learned in my 3 years as an internet marketer, is that self-development skill books are your best friend. Learning these skills will improve every aspect of your life.

If you have not read
How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie, go to your local library or buy it today! This is a classic self-development skill book written in 1937 and is still relevant today. Dale Carnegie teaches “people skills” that are so important in business and everyday life. He uses stories of the experiences of his students and examples from historic figures so it is lively and interesting. You will learn to take an interest in people. People need praise, encouragement and appreciation…focus on “you” not “me” and make it a part of your life. This is required reading for many business executives and all attendees of Dale Carnegie’s course in Effective Speaking and Human Relations. If it was up to me, it would be required reading for everyone!

Another of my favorite books is The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz, Ph.D. Written in 1959, it is still as empowering today as it was back then. Dr. Schwartz illustrates a plan that will make you a better person. If you can think it, then you can do it. He will help you improve every aspect of your life…home, work, and community. Some of what you will learn is:

*Believe You Can Succeed and You Will

*Cure Yourself of the Fear of Failure

*Build Confidence and Destroy Fear

*Learn How to Think Positively

*Use Goals to Help You Grow

Dr. Schwartz teaches these techniques using real-life cases to make it interesting and to show you how to use the techniques in every day situations. I recommend this book for everyone who has a dream of a better life.

Those are two of my favorite self-development skill books. Here is a list of several more:

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino

The Magic of Believing by Claude M. Bristol

The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale

Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude by Napoleon Hill, W. Clement Stone

Hung by the Tongue: What You Say is What You Get by Francis P. Martin

One thing about self-development skill books is you need to read them over and over again. The reason is that as you change so will the material. It will have a different meaning for you. So, go to the library and check out some books; you won’t regret it. If they are not available at your library, click here to purchase.

Starting your own internet business can be a little scary especially if you are not computer savvy. Relax, it’s not hard to do. Here is my list of 5 things you need to start an internet business:

Website

Whether you have your own product/service or you are an affiliate marketer, you need your own website. The free website you receive with your affiliate membership is basic and all affiliates have the same website. You need something different. Something that stands out. Where do you get a website?

Global Domains International
GDI costs $10.00 per month and included in the price is a domain name, hosting, website builder, and 10 email accounts. There is also an affiliate program available. The domain name you want may be readily available if you choose the .ws instead of .com, .net or .org. GDI has been around for 10 years and is a stable, reliable company.

Your Picture on Your Website

This is very important. You want people to see your face so you are recognized as an expert. You will become “famous” and that is what you want. You want to brand yourself. Make sure you choose a good picture because it will be seen all over the world!

Advertising

Advertising is the only way to get people to your website. I will start with the free methods which I recommend until you start making money. You can spend a lot of money on advertising but if you don’t know what you are doing, it will be wasted.

Free Advertising methods:

Traffic Exchanges

Safelists

Text Ad Exchanges

Banner Ads

Paid Advertising Methods:

If you have money to spend and the knowledge of key words then paid advertising will work for you. Here are my choices:

Google Adwords
Yahoo Search
Miva Search
Enhance Search
123 Search

A Goal

It is very important that you have a goal. Whether it is to make $200.00 per month or $10,000 per month or to retire in so many years. Write it down, post it by your computer and read it every day. Never lose sight of this goal and you will succeed.

Persistance

If you want to reach your goal be persistent and consistent in promoting your business. Don’t start and stop…it won’t work. Remember an internet business is like an offline business. It takes 2 – 5 years to make any real money. There is no such thing as “get rich quick”. There will be times when there will be little or no results from your efforts but never give up and success will come your way.

th_proctor

How did Bob Proctor go from making $4000 to $175,000 in just ONE year? And then in a short time later making millions?

In 1961, Bob Proctor was working at a fire house in Canada making $4000 a year. The problem was he was $6000 in debt. He would have to work an entire year without spending any money on food, rent and other necessities in order to get out of debt. Fortunately, a friend handed Bob a book called “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. This book changed Bob’s life.

In this book, Napoleon says to write down the exact amount of money you desire, determine what you intend to give in return for the money you desire, decide on a definite date you intend to possess the money you desire and create a definite plan for carrying out your desire. Bob did this. He wrote that he wanted to make $25,000 by the end of the year. He read it over and over as Napoleon Hill says to do but he didn’t really believe it…at least not at first. He finally realized that in order to get what you want; you need to believe that it is possible. Once he believed it would happen, the idea of opening an office cleaning business came to him. This business grew rapidly and within a year he was making $175,000. In a short time after that, he was making millions!

Do you think it is possible to think yourself rich? Bob Proctor does. Bob has helped countless people “think and grow rich”. He has spent 40 years teaching and motivating people to do just that.

If you have not experienced one of Bob Proctor’s seminars or saw him in the movie “The Secret” then you are in for a real treat. He is a phenomenal speaker, teacher and motivator.

Bob has a new program called “Six Minutes to Success”. This program involves a new video every weekday that will help you “think and grow rich”. I am fascinated by Bob so I decided to try his program. I started a week ago and already I feel like a new person. He says that you will see a marked improvement in your attitude in just a couple of weeks. Bob is teaching me to control my thoughts. He is helping me get rid of the negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones. I find myself looking for good in things I could only find bad. I set my goal and am working towards it. With the help of Bob Proctor I know I will reach it.

Six Minutes to Success can also help you in other aspects of your life. It can help you with relationships, both personal and work. It can help you reach goals other than making money. All you have to do is watch the one minute videos and then spend 5 minutes thinking about it. Hence, the six minutes a day.

Personal growth and self-motivation is what Bob Proctor teaches and teaches well. I can’t wait to see what I will accomplish with this program. Maybe I will reach my goal in one year instead of two. All I know is I’m hooked for life. If you want to learn more about Six Minutes to Success go here: http://secretstosuccess.ws. I believe it will change your life.

The answer is YES. Direct Matches is the first online business networking website to unfold a multi-matchmaking system that helps people locate everything from business contacts to finding friends and dates online.

Determined to be different from other social networking websites, they created the multi-referral marketing system (MRM). This system enables people with varying levels of experience to build a successful business through the use of their compensation plan.

You can join Direct Matches for free and enjoy the benefits of networking with like-minded people, but if you want Direct Matches to be a money-making business you will need to upgrade. The cost of the upgrade depends on how much money you want to make.

For $19.95 per month you can become a Managing Independent Representative, earn income 3 ways up to $6,000.00 per week.
For $29.95 per month you can become an Executive Independent Representative, earn income 4 ways up to $12,000.00 per week.
You will earn income from your personally sponsored members and also from the members in your organization.

The compensation plan consists of two “legs”, right leg and left leg. Each time you get four members on each leg, you create a cycle and you are issued a check. As long as they continue their membership you will continue receiving weekly checks. You also receive income on your organization’s renewals so this can add up to a substantial income.
Hint: when you sign up go to the binary placement in your backoffice and select auto. This will place your members evenly between the two legs.

What I like about Direct Matches (besides the compensation plan) is the MRM system. This system helps you build your business with the tools you need such as free registration that gets people in to see what Direct Matches is all about, a rapid response customer care team that answers questions from your referrals and when you upgrade Direct Matches will email you about new members that match your criteria. There is so much more to the MRM system and all of it is helpful in building your business.

I recommend you join as a free member and spend some time getting to know the network then you can decide if you want to upgrade. You can continue as a free member…you do not have to upgrade to enjoy the network. Click here to join.

Get paid to advertise your business

What is a banner ad and do they work?

If you have surfed on the internet then I’m sure you have seen banner ads. Banner ads are small, rectangular advertisements that appear on most web pages. They vary in appearance and subject matter but they share the same function; when you click on them, they will take you to the advertiser’s website.

Banner ads can be highly effective if used properly. Business owners who are considering using banner ads should spend time researching how to use them effectively and find the ideal location for their ads.

The best location for a banner ad is prominently displayed on a high-traffic website that complements your products or services but does not compete with them. This advertising can cost money…lots of money.

Probably the best way to get your banner seen is through a banner exchange program. A banner exchange program is a network of web sites that advertise for one another using banners. A central server stores and displays the banners for everyone. When a user clicks on a banner, the server sends the user to the correct site. This action is called a click-thru. Each time a banner is displayed is called an impression.
I recommend Banner Keyring http://www.bannerkeyring.com/?rid=4049. It is free but you can upgrade for 9.95 per month and have unlimited banners.

Other locations are traffic exchanges, safelists and ad exchanges. These are free to display as long as you have enough credits. Getting credits is free also (see posts on safelists, traffic exchanges and text ad exchanges).

Even though banner ads don’t always produce great results, I still feel they are an additional way to get visitors to your site. We all want more visitors and banner ads are a cost-effective way to get them.

To your success!
